Krannert Art Museum curator of African Art Allyson Purpura and Prita Meier, Assistant Professor of Art History, have received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) planning grant for the museum exhibition World on the Horizon: Swahili Arts Across the Indian Ocean.

The award will support exhibition planning, publication of an exhibition catalog, and programming that explores the unique, transcultural aesthetic of Swahili art from the 16th century to the present.

NEH Museums, Libraries, and Cultural Organizations Planning and Implementation Grants support museum exhibitions, library-based projects, interpretation of historic places, living history presentations, and book and film discussion programs that deepen public understanding of significant humanities questions.
