Ricker Library of Architecture and Art Library Guides to KAM Exhibitions

Academic Engagement

We are excited to announce that University of Illinois library staff at Ricker Library of Architecture and Art have created guides to recent art exhibitions at KAM. These tools will provide information on the artwork and artists featured in the museum's temporary exhibitions, including images, links to artist websites, and suggested bibliography for research or further investigation of the themes presented in each exhibition.

Melanie Emerson, Head Librarian at Ricker Library, initiated the effort to produce the guides in fall 2015. Her staff began by using the checklist of collection works on view in the East Gallery exhibition, Attachment, and by working with KAM Curator of Modern and Contemporary art, Amy L. Powell.

According to Emerson, "We hope the LibGuides for KAM exhibitions will provide a way for students and visitors to dig deeper into the artwork on exhibit, to find out more about the artists, or to do independent reading that fosters continued learning." This set of guides is the first in a series the library will produce. The art exhibition LibGuides fit into a family of research tools the University of Illinois Libraries have produced on research topics and exhibitions across campus.

Emerson's staff has produced the following LibGuides to facilitate learning about KAM exhibitions:

Attachment | About the exhibition on view August through December, 2015 in the East Gallery

Time / Image | About the exhibition on view January through April 23, 2016 in the East Gallery

Spheres of Influence | About the exhibition on view January through May 15, 2016 in the Asian Gallery

New library guides will continue to be produced each semester. We encourage our visitors to take advantage of these opportunitites to learn more about the artwork on display at KAM.
