“I think that Lisa Fay and Jeff Glassman belong in some kind of genius category.” —The New Orleans Times-Picayune
Fay/Glassman Duo artist talk and workshop is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
Krannert Art Museum is proud to present an artist talk and workshop by Lisa Fay and Jeff Glassman Duo in conjunction with Pattern and Process, an exhibition encouraging viewers to investigate how pattern can create and challenge our ways of knowing and interpreting the world.
Lisa Fay and Jeff Glassman Duo are a composing and performing movement-based theatre duo, working together since 1991.
They are known for applying complex composed structures to ordinary daily human behavior and originating the performance techniques required for these compositions to manifest in the medium of live theatre—embodied composition.
The results, ranging from humorous and disarming to mesmerizing and disorienting, arise as metaphors for social processes.
The duo invents systems for organizing raw elements of theatre, compose in these systems, and originate performance techniques required by them — to make embodied composition. The invention of notated graphic scores is central to this process, facilitating shifts through patterns of time and place.
Lisa Fay and Jeff Glassman have originated and performed movement-based theatre works for the past 40 and 50 years respectively, as a duo for over 30 of those years, in tours across the US, in Eastern and Western Europe, Mexico, Cuba and South Korea, in large and small theatres, colleges, cultural centers, and festivals in the US and abroad.
