This exhibition featured three of the eleven known decorated instruments made by Stradivari, on loan from the Smithsonian Institution.
The exhibition and related programs were sponsored by the Sousa Archives.
The exquisite marquetry and ornamental design of these master- pieces typify the sophistication of baroque decorative art. This was a unique opportunity to see and hear remarkable instruments. The musical program and visual arts context in which they were exhibited covered the 17th—18th centuries.
