The Museum, in partnership with the University of Illinois Afro-American Studies Program and the Center for African Studies, organized an international exhibition featuring the works of well-known and emerging women artists from North America and Africa.
The show was guest curated by Isobel Neal and Robin Chandler, working in close conjunction with KAM staff. On opening reception was hosted in conjunction with a related conference, "Black Women in Africa and the African Diaspora: Identity, Culture, and Politics." Programming included an African dance and music performance, three separate moderated panel discussions and slide shows led by local African-American women artists, three hands-on workshops on Saturdays for high school students, and guided tours. The exhibition was originally scheduled to close after two months; it was extended due to popular demand and was on display until January 7, 2001.
