Join us for a special gallery talk with Catherine Weisener, artist, educator, and teaching professor in the School of Art & Design, as she explores themes, techniques, and the enduring impact of ceramics in conjunction with Centering Clay: Connection and Innovation in American Studio Ceramics. Drawing on her expertise as a practicing ceramic artist, Weisener will offer unique perspectives on the exhibition and the role of clay in contemporary artistic practice.
About the Speaker
Catherine Weisener is a teaching professor in the School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A practicing sculptor and ceramic artist, her work explores the Midwestern landscape, stewardship, and our relationship to place through media including clay, bronze, porcelain, wood, and video. In addition to exhibiting nationally, Weisener is dedicated to community-engaged teaching and collaborative creative projects that connect students, artists, and the broader community.
