Workshop
Mar 26, 2026 - 5:30–7pm
School of Art and Design, Room 107

How can we use and make maps that reflect our relationship to place? Join architect and scholar Amanda Aman (American Institute of Architecture) for a hands-on workshop where we will make our own creative maps. Bring a map of a place you care about—or we will provide a map of campus for you to work from.

The workshop is free and open to everyone, and will meet in Room 107 in the School of Art & Design, 408 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign.

Hosted by Professor Kathryn Holliday (U of I Landscape Architecture).

Presented in conjunction with Another Place: Storymaking the Entangled Prairie, curated by Terri Weissman, and on view through July 2, at Krannert Art Museum.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Amanda Aman is an architect, researcher, and educator whose work centers on the intersections of storytelling, preservation, and urban design. She teaches at the College of Architecture, Planning & Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington, where her courses and research explore how landscapes, histories, and cultural narratives shape the built environment. Through her scholarship, Aman investigates how stories—both personal and collective—can inform more equitable and resilient approaches to architecture and planning. Aman is also engaged in narrative-mapping projects.

Made possible with support from the School of Art & Design Rohlen Visitor Fund and Professor Kathryn Holliday. Krannert Art Museum acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council.
