Jack Baker’s loft in “Old Town” Champaign served as an ad hoc social, performance, and gathering space for artists, university faculty, and students from the 1960s to the 1990s. As architect and Illinois professor, Baker pursued architecture as a collaborative art and believed strongly in the interdisciplinary model of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. He offered his loft space for events and performances that challenged traditional disciplinary and departmental boundaries.

This film of the Jack Baker Loft and Studio, made in December 2024 and January 2025, shows how the spaces flow together and its renovation and adaptation by the Burnham Group.
