Project Details

Krannert Art Museum is embarking on summer facility improvements that will refresh the main lobby entrance for museum visitors. The lobby portion of the project includes several elements: refinishing floors and ceilings in the upstairs and downstairs spaces; care and restoration of mid-century walnut paneling; and refinishing the open staircase original to the 1961 building.

In addition, the KAM Education team has been busy this summer preparing to move the Giertz Education Center into its new home, closer to the classroom spaces used by school groups and families that visit the museum. Lower level work to prepare this exciting new space will continue throughout the summer.

Planning to Visit KAM? Here's what you need to know.

Facility work on the KAM lobby is planned to begin on July 9. As a result, the Peabody Drive entrance will be temporarily closed to the public.

All visitors should enter through the Kinkead Pavilion entrance (pictured above). The Kinkead Pavilion entrance is located on Sixth Street and is fully accessible for visitors of all abilities.

All main floor galleries will be open during the construction, including collection galleries and special exhibitions. This will include Capturing Landscape in the Gelvin Noel Gallery; please join us for a photo chat and workshop on landscape photography "Capturing American Landscapes" with Phillip Kalantzis-Cope on July 12 at 3:30 pm.

Tours are available by request; please visit the Tours page for details.

Lower level galleries may close during portions of this project. KAM will update gallery signage to inform visitors of any closures.

Because the Espresso Royale Café is adjacent to the KAM lobby, it will close during the month of July. The nearest Espresso Royale location that will remain open is in the Business Instructional Facility on Sixth Street.

Fresh Look for Fall

This exciting work will result in a brighter, refreshed lobby space for Krannert Art Museum visitors this fall.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the museum's opening night celebration on August 30. To see what new exhibitions are on the way, please visit Upcoming Exhibitions

And the Education team at KAM will continue its exciting work to further incorporate the Giertz Education Center collections into its work with children, educators, and families. Updates will be posted to the website as the project moves forward.
