“Art is powerful, she says of the program. “It conjures up memories, feelings, and ideas to all age groups.”

Two years ago while leading a museum tour for seniors, Lee realized that these individuals were rich in life experiences and wisdom and could greatly appreciate and interpret the arts because of this.

“When I realized what a wonderful time we all were having despite physical challenges, I was ready to reach out to the seniors at Amber Glen as soon as it was proposed. Our resident friends have their good days and bad days, of course, but, there hasn't been a day without a few remarkable comments connecting the arts with their memories and life stories."

Dr. Lee believes that art has the power to activate hearts and minds and spirits, whether a person is young or old, sick or well, and that is why this outreach is so important. She, together with fellow KAM docents Gaye Wong and John Bennett, visit Amber Glen once a month to talk about art and to share art experiences with their new friends.

The group is excited at the prospect of growing the museum’s senior outreach to bring art into the lives of community members who have difficulty getting to KAM. “I simply want to share the joy of art with more of my friends, colleagues, students, and neighbors in my Champaign-Urbana community,” she says.
