The newly reimagined Trees Gallery includes a salon-style display that celebrates the legacy of Merle J. and Emily N. Trees: the benefactors who gifted their remarkable collection of Old Master paintings to the University of Illinois beginning in the 1930s.

On view is Courtyard Scene with a Pregnant Woman: a genre painting by the seventeenth-century Dutch artist Hendrick van der Burch. Eli Wilner & Company recently restored the exquisite eighteenth-century French gilt frame on Van der Burch’s painting, after the New York firm selected KAM as a 2019 recipient of matching funds for their Museum Framing Projects initiative.

The display also includes iconic paintings from the Krannert Art Museum collection by Moretto da Brescia, Frans Hals, Winslow Homer, David Teniers II, and many others.
